Early Life and Background

The Murders

The Trial
The trial of Lyle and Erik Menendez was a sensationalized media event, with the brothers' defense team arguing that they had been driven to commit the crime due to the abuse they suffered at the hands of their father. The prosecution, on the other hand, painted the brothers as ruthless and calculating killers who had planned the murders in order to get their hands on their parents' wealth. The trial was marked by dramatic twists and turns, including the revelation that the brothers had spent thousands of dollars on luxury items and vacations in the months leading up to the murders.
Conviction and Aftermath
In 1996, Lyle and Erik Menendez were convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The brothers were initially housed in separate prisons, but were later reunited at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego. In 2017, the brothers were reunited in the same prison for the first time in over 20 years, after Lyle was transferred to the same facility as Erik.
